Not quite as surprising as the original Revo X, but still very good for a reel of this makeupĪn abbreviated Power Stack Carbon Matrix, brass gearsĪn oversized REVO without the oversized knobs.Ību Garcia's Beast X has quickly become one of my favorite reels for big baits. It is only available in one retrieve ratio, but that ratio is a good, general purpose rate of retrieve if maybe a tad on the fast side for big baits. The Beast X, at $179.95 almost splits the difference but is certainly significantly more than the standard X, though quite a bit more affordable than the standard Beast. The REVO X is priced at a very budget friendly $99. Price & Applications: Where the Beast X is more Beast, and less X is in its overall price. Like its pricier siblings, the Beast X sports a deep spool Abu got it right with the Beast X keeping it simple, sensible, and most of all, comfortable. Manufacturers tend to overthink this feature a lot lately spoiling the overall feel on what should otherwise be a given. Version of Abu's Power Stack Carbon Matrix dragĭesign & Ergonomics: I touched upon pretty much all of the Revo X's design and ergonomics points throughout the review including the one I'm most pleased about which is the reel's right-sized and shaped knobs. This Carbon Matrix Hybrid Drag is essentially a scaled down Despite the shorter stack, the Beast X comes with the same 24lb max drag rating as the Beast Rocket. Instead, to my surprise, the Beast X features a downsized version of Abu's more extensive Power Stack Carbon Matrix drag featuring a total of three drag washers inside the main gear instead of five. This is, afterall, a more budget friendly big bait reel. When I opened the reel up I expected to see an upsized version of the Revo X's Carbon Matrix Hybrid stack. The Beast X's main gear is oversized, but not quite as large asĭrag: Out on the water, the Beast X's drag performed with perfectly smooth and consistent resistance to those crazy hits I got with the Husky Hasuzzy. The Beast X has sufficient power, but it's not entirely overpowering as its name might suggest. It became a bit of a challenge once I hooked onto a bass crazy enough to bite that bait as the resistance of that bait in the fish's mouth, together with the fish trying to pull away from me made it quite the challenge to bring the fish in. Power: The Beast X's main gear is slightly smaller than that of the other Beast reels, but had good power pulling that Husky Hasuzzy swimbait through the water.
